Whitecaps FC Black History Month kit

In recognition of Black History Month in 2025, I was commissioned by the Vancouver Whitecaps FC to design a special edition jersey to be worn by Whitecaps’ players.

The design components include a theming of the jersey to the Pan African colors of black, yellow, red and green.

A Kente cloth design frames the front player crest, while also serving as a pattern fill for the player names and numbers on the back of the jersey.

The jocktag is adorned with Anna’s hummingbird, which is both the official bird of the City of Vancouver, as well as a prominent bird throughout the Caribbean.

The necktag is decorated with the text “BLACK HISTORY CANADIAN HISTORY” which is based on a quote from Jean Augustine, the first Black Canadian woman to serve as a federal Minister of the Crown and a Member of Parliament: “Black history is not just for black people. Black history is Canadian history.”
